James Francis Durante, born on February 10th 1893 was a favourite of American audiences from the 1920's through to the 1970's. His large nose which he himself dubbed, the Schnozzle, led to his nickname and his gruff voice provided the inspiration for Spike the bulldog of Tom and Jerry fame.
